VANESA PACHECO was born and raised in Boston, MA. She is a recent graduate of Wheelock College where she received her BA in Literature and Communications. Vanesa enjoys writing science fiction, dystopian short stories, but also experiments with visual, prose, and haiku poetry. For this erasure poem, she has used both Ayn Rand’s Anthem and a personal response to Rand’s novella. Vanesa hopes to continue her studies towards an MA in Creative Writing in the near future.
Curatorial note: The following poems are a response to a call for poetry about rape culture for the annual Delirious Advent Feature; the call is in turn an immediate response to the Rolling Stone story “A Rape on Campus” about rape culture at the University of Virginia. However, they are also part of a larger conversation about rape in poetry communities. Curated by Jessica Smith and Susana Gardner.
